publications
Alphabets: A Miscellany of Letters, October 2010
Introduction by David Sacks
Black Dog Publisher, London, England
Spreads from ABCing included in 240-page publication that includes 450 b/w and color
illustrations. The book features letters of all shapes, sizes and alphabets ranging from
Victorian classroom aides, to Dr Seuss’ ABC through to Peter Blake, Michael Craig-
Martin, Tauba Auerbach, León Ferrari and Mira Schendel.
ABCing: Seeing the Alphabet Differently (Mark Batty Publisher) New York, New York
January 2010
Wrote, designed, illustrated, and assisted in the marketing of a 64-page primer to
seeing and understanding the visual world. The book dismantles the Latin alphabet, shifting the focus from the subject, the letter, to the surrounding space. The Boston Globe called it ‘thoroughly inventive’. The manuscript won an honorable mention from the PEN New England Children’s Book Caucus. I also created a Flash-based website, www.abseeing.com, for the book’s release, which the Boston Globe called ‘even
better’. The site translates the 26 static illustrations into 15-second vignettes of a given word’s meaning using sound and motion.
